A New Community
The site
The Peters Pit and Peters Works site is located to the south of Wouldham on the east bank of the River Medway and has for many years been derelict and degraded land. The land is exactly the sort of site on which the Government is encouraging new housing development to meet people's needs. As a former quarry and works, the site is a 'brownfield' site and Government Guidance advises that previously developed land should be developed before 'greenfield' sites.

The development
The project is in two parts:
- A new village of 1,000 residential units - currently known as 'Peters Village'. The new community will be built within the old pit and the old works where the village centre will be located.
- A new bridge to the site across the River Medway from the West Bank (also see 'The new bridge') to enable access to the A228.
